Cooney Marine bouncing back with a 9000 sq ft extension!
The project that has been over in planning for three years, delayed because of the pandemic is now full steam ahead.
This will be the largest expansion in the firm’s history, with an area of 9000 sq ft state of the art production facility and a high-tech design and technology centre.
Managing Director James Cooney said, “After a difficult decision in March where we furloughed 70 staff in Kettering and 30 in Poole, I couldn’t be happier. To finally get underway with this extension is great news, we have managed to un-furlough over 95% of our staff and our orderbooks have returned to a good level considering the pandemic. The extra 9000 sq ft of space will be used to manufacture high quality railings and parts for some of the finest superyachts in the world. We have awarded the build contract to a local company, so it is great to put something back and help to get the economy going again”
The extension will be a great addition to Cooney Marine as they started their own our own training academy last year, the academy has been EAL approved and Cooney Marine have their own certification status, a very prestigious award from the leading engineering awarding body.
We have had such success in training our apprentices to fully skilled engineers and have now started to reap the rewards at our sister company Cooney South in Poole Dorset.
More good news is that we are recruiting for apprentice and skilled rolls, from Design to Welding and Polishing over the two sites.
Cooney Marine is the largest manufacturer of stainless-steel boat fitting and railings in the UK and has a sister company Cooney South in Poole. The companies have a combined turnover just under 9 million and process over 5 km of stainless-steel tube every month.
